American Legion Post 325

The monthly meeting was held on January 18, 2012.  The meeting was called to order at 7 PM.  Minutes of the December meeting were not available.  The financial report was read and will be filed for audit.  Gerry Logan reported that there was one new member.  He was voted in.  A new idea was introduced to get members in to the lounge.  A monthly birthday party will be had and any member whose birthday falls in that month will receive a drink token.  This will begin on February 18 at 7 PM.  Proof of your birthday will be required.  Nominations for Post 325 officers will be held at the March and April meetings with the election being held in May, 2012.  That's about it.  The meeting was closed at 7:35 PM.

 

Now a few of MY OWN thoughts.  Our First Vice Commander, Jon Deacon and our Adjutant, John Widmayer have resigned their post due to personal reasons.  Our Finance Officer, Gerry Logan, has said that he will not seek re-election next year.  That leaves at least three openings and there may be more.  Have you heard of "Burn Out"?  I believe this is happening in our Post.  The same people have been doing the same job for many years and need a break.  We have 200 members and only eleven showed up at the meeting.  We need more than just card carrying members.  We need new blood.  WW II and Korea vets are geting along in age and their health is not so good.  It seems to me that Viet Nam era Vets are carrying the load and some of us are getting old, too.  We need vets from the Gulf Wars to step up and take an active part in our post.  We are not just some place where you can get a cheap drink.  Our mission is to help other veterans and their families.  The lounge is there to generate funds to do the work intended, so man up, vets, and get active in YOUR post.  Come to the monthly meetings and join in the Legions purpose.  And while you're at it, bring along another vet who is eligible for membership.  WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT.

If you know of ANYONE who meets the requirements of Legion membership, have a talk with them and encourage them to join our Post 325.  Same thing with Legion members who live in the Ellenton area but belong to another Post.  See if you can get them to switch to a Post closer to home.  OURS!

The push for 2012 membership has started, so be prepared to renew for 2012.  You still need a valid card for service at the lounge.  If you haven't sent in your dues for 2012, contact Gerry Logan and he will see that you get your new card after payment of dues.  YOU WILL NEED A VALID 2012 MEMBERSHIP CARD ON JANUARY 1, 2012 TO BE SERVED AT THE LOUNGE.  CONTACT Gerry LoganFOR MEMBERSHIP.
